    Examining the mediating role of employee job engagement on employee retention among gen Y in Malaysian manufacturing sectors

    In today’s emerging competitive business environment, employees play a vital role for the organisation to achieve success. The purpose of this study is to examine the direct influence of compensation, human resource development, work-life balance and person-job fit on employee retention with employee job engagement being the mediating variable. Gen Y was chosen as the focus group in this study. Moreover, the quantitative method was used to test the relationships. A survey was carried out among employees of the manufacturing sectors across three states (Selangor, Johor and Penang) in Malaysia with a total of 966 sets returned and utilized for data analysis. Structural Equation Modelling technique was used to test the conceptual framework by adopting the Partial Least Square approach. The results analysis reveals that compensation, human resource development and person-job fit are positively found to influence employee retention. However, work-life balance has an insignificant influence on employee retention. Meanwhile, all the independent constructs show significant results when mediated by employee job engagement towards employee retention. For the implications, various stakeholders such as employers, employees and policy makers from the manufacturing sectors could utilize the effective practices to satisfy and retain their employees (Gen Y) in order to increase their competitiveness. Besides that, limitation and recommendations for future researches are also discussed. In future, a comparison study between manufacturing sectors and service sectors is recommended. The comparison on the two largest sectors could provide a better understanding on the desire and needs of the Gen Y. Thus, the results could help to increase the employee retention rate within the organisations

    Effects of exercise modality combined with moderate hypoxia on blood glucose regulation in adults with overweight

    Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the combined effects of moderate hypoxia with three different exercise modes on glucose regulation in healthy overweight adults.Methods: Thirteen overweight males (age: 31 ± 4 years; body fat 26.3 ± 3.2%) completed three exercise trials in a randomized crossover design involving 60 min cycling exercise at 90% lactate threshold (LOW), sprint interval training (20 × 4 s all-out; SIT) and lower limb functional bodyweight exercises (8 sets of 4 × 20 s; FEX) under moderate hypoxia (FiO2 = 16.5%). Post-exercise oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed following each trial. Heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2), physical activity enjoyment scale (PACES), and perceptual measures were recorded during each exercise session. Venous blood was collected pre-, immediately post-, and 24 h post-exercise and analysed for plasma glucose and insulin, incremental area under curve (iAUC), and circulating microRNA expression (c-miRs-486-5p, -126-5p, and -21-5p). Interstitial glucose concentrations were measured using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).Results: Post-exercise OGTT iAUC for plasma glucose and insulin concentration were lower in SIT and LOW vs. control (p < 0.05) while post-exercise interstitial glucose iAUC and c-miRs were not different between exercise modes. Heart rate was greater in SIT vs. LOW and FEX, and FEX vs. LOW (p < 0.05), SpO2 was lower in SIT, while PACES was not different between exercise modes. Perceptual measures were greater in SIT vs. LOW and FEX.Conclusion: Acute SIT and LOW under moderate hypoxia improved post-exercise plasma insulin compared to FEX exercises. Considering SIT was also time-efficient, well tolerated, and enjoyable for participants, this may be the preferred exercise modality for improving glucose regulation in adult males with overweight when combined with moderate hypoxia

    Green Work Climate and Pro-Environmental Behaviour Among Academics: The Mediating Role of Harmonious Environmental Passion

    Environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and the loss of biodiversity are the concerns of society in different parts of the world today. As human activities have adverse impacts on the environment, developing pro-environmental behaviour in each individual is an essential aspect of protecting mother earth. The primary purpose of this research is to evaluate the influence of green work climate perceptions and harmonious environmental passion on pro-environmental behaviour (PEB). Additionally, the mediating effect of harmonious environmental passion between green work climate and PEB is determined. A total of 167 academics from a private university in Malaysia participated in this study. The results from Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling suggested that green work climate and harmonious environmental passion positively influence PEB. Apart from this, harmonious environmental passion partially mediates the relationship between green work climate and PEB. The results indicate that leaders should actively shape the perception of green work climate within their organisations through policies and procedures that support environmental sustainability efforts, as well as effectively communicate with their employees. Such efforts will lead to greater harmonious environmental passion, in turn, promoting pro-environmental behaviour among members

    Combined effects of exercise and different levels of acute hypoxic severity: A randomized crossover study on glucose regulation in adults with overweight

    Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of manipulating hypoxic severity with low-intensity exercise on glucose regulation in healthy overweight adults.Methods: In a randomized crossover design, 14 males with overweight (age: 27 ± 5 years; body mass index (BMI) 27.1 ± 1.8 kg⋅m2) completed three exercise trials involving 60 min aerobic exercise cycling at 90% lactate threshold in normoxia (NM, FiO2 = 20.9%), moderate hypoxia (MH, FiO2 = 16.5%) and high hypoxia (HH, FiO2 = 14.8%). A post-exercise oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed. Venous blood samples were analyzed for incremental area under the curve (iAUC), plasma glucose and insulin, as well as exerkine concentrations (plasma apelin and fibroblast growth factor 21 [FGF-21]) pre- and post-exercise. A 24-h continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) was used to determine interstitial glucose concentrations. Heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2) and perceptual measures were recorded during exercise.Results: Post-exercise OGTT iAUC for plasma glucose and insulin concentrations were lower in MH vs. control (p = 0.02). Post-exercise interstitial glucose iAUC, plasma apelin and FGF-21 were not different between conditions. Heart rate was higher in HH vs. NM and MH, and MH vs. NM (p < 0.001), while SpO2 was lower in HH vs. NM and MH, and MH vs. NM (p < 0.001). Overall perceived discomfort and leg discomfort were higher in HH vs. NM and MH (p < 0.05), while perceived breathing difficulty was higher in HH vs. NM only (p = 0.003).Conclusion: Compared to higher hypoxic conditions, performing acute aerobic-based exercise under moderate hypoxia provided a more effective stimulus for improving post-exercise glucose regulation while concomitantly preventing excessive physiological and perceptual stress in healthy overweight adults

    Influence of triethanolamine on the chemical bath deposited NiS thin films

    Problem statement: Recently, many scientists looking for new chalcogenide materials for the solar cell applications. Nowadays, silicon-based solar cell became dominant products in the market. Because of expensive silicon-based solar cells, scientists hope replaces it with cheaper chalcogenide materials. Approach: The binary chalcogenide materials were deposited onto microscope glass slide using simple chemical bath deposition method. Here, we study the influence of complexing agent in the preparation of thin films. The structural and morphological of the deposited films have been studied using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Results: The X-ray diffraction data showed that the films had polycrystalline in nature with hexagonal structure. The films deposited using 0.1 M of triethanolamine showed more NiS peaks and larger grain sizes as compared with 0.05M and 0.2 M triethanolamine based on the X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analysis, respectively. Conclusion: The complexing agent played important role during the deposition process
